Gymnasts place third at Concordia

Carroll High School’s gymnastics team turned in a third-place finish at last Saturday’s Carter Classic at Concordia Lutheran High School.
Homestead won the 13-team event with 110.30 points. Bishop Dwenger was second with 107.05, followed by the Chargers with 102.75.
Freshman Avery Zembo turned in Carroll’s best effort in the all-around competition (eighth, 33.675). Junior Natalie Smith was third in the floor exercise (9.425) and also finished third in the balance beam (9.2). Aliyah Sauder finished ninth in the floor exercise (9.0).
Maleah Tanner was ninth in the balance beam (8.425). Freshman Aubrey Gruf had Carroll’s best finish in the vault (8.850).
The Chargers will be in action next on Monday, Jan. 30, when they travel to DeKalb for a four-way meet with DeKalb, Eastside and Wayne.
