FORT WAYNE — It took a while, but the Carroll High School boys basketball team was able to use its depth and athleticism to overpower Bishop Luers Friday night on the road, 82-55.

Saturday night, Carroll went back to back with a 58-52 win over New Haven.

With the wins, the Chargers improved to 7-3 overall (2-2 Summit Athletic Conference).

This one was close for the first half, with the Knights surging out of the gate to a 23-18 first-quarter advantage. The second stanza belonged to the Chargers, however, as Carroll outscored Luers 20-4 to begin to take control of the game. The Chargers led 38-27 at intermission and cruised to the win in the second half.

Carroll was led by Jaxon Pardon with 19 points. Cannen Houser and Drelyn Truesdale added 18 each.

Luers was led by Demarcus Barr with 15 points.

Saturday against New Haven, the Chargers were led by Drelyn Truesdale with 20 points.

Carroll head coach Ryan Abbott said his team actually played a bit too fast in the first half at Luers Friday night.

“We’re pretty athletic, and have a lot of depth at the guard position,” Abbott said. “I think we sped it up a bit too much, and we had to slow it down and find each other.”

Abbott was especially pleased to see three of his guys in double figures.

“Usually you’re going to be in pretty good shape if that’s the case,” Abbott said.

Abbott likes where his team is as the midpoint of the 2022-23 season approaches.

The Chargers host South Side this Friday night. It will be another girls-boys doubleheader with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys following about 20 minutes after the conclusion of the girls game.
