Sports roundup: Charger nine drop three of four games

Carroll’s baseball team stumbled a bit last week after getting out to a 15-0 start in 2023: The Chargers dropped three of four.

Carroll lost to Westfield, 5-3 on Tuesday, May 2; fell to Bishop Luers, 4-3 on Wednesday, May 3; and dropped their first page of the Plymouth Tournament to Penn, 7-3 on Saturday, May 6.

Carroll rebounded for a 7-4 win over North Miami in their second game at the Plymouth Tournament.

Against Penn on Saturday, the Chargers were led by Andrew Sinish, who was 1-for-4 with a run scored, double and an RBI.

Carroll was scheduled to travel to Homestead on Wednesday, May 10 and host Homestead on Thursday, May 11. The Chargers travel to Huntington North on Saturday, May 13 for a nonconference doubleheader against the Vikings. The first game is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with the second game at noon.

Prep softball

Chargers split with Norwell, DeKalb

Carroll’s softball team is now 7-7 on the 2023 season after splitting a pair of games last week.

The Chargers lost to Norwell, 4-0 on Thursday, May 4, and defeated DeKalb, 9-4 on Friday, May 5.

Against the Barons, Carroll was led by Jaidyn Fuller, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Alexandra Hemsworth was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Chargers are in the midst of a busy week with four games: Carroll was set to travel to Homestead on Monday, May 8 and South Adams on Wednesday, May 10.

Carroll has a doubleheader on the calendar for Saturday, May 13, hosting Hamilton Southeastern at 10 a.m. and South Bend St. Joseph at 2 p.m.

Prep track and field

Chargers host invite

It was a busy day of prep track and field at Carroll on Saturday, May 6 as the Chargers hosted the Carroll Invitational.

The Charger boys competed against Homestead and New Prairie, with the Carroll girls hosting Carmel, Homestead and New Prairie.

Homestead won the boys meet with 111 points, followed by Carroll in second place with 77 points and New Prairie third with 39.

The Homestead girls made it a sweep for the Spartans with 90 points. The Chargers were second with 87, with Carmel in third with 34 and New Prairie fourth with 16.

The Charger boys got winning performances from Dajuan Green in the 100-meter dash (11.15). Green was second in the 200-meter dash (23.95). Taylor Arens won the 400-meter dash (52.51). Trey Jones was second in the 400 (52.90).

For the Carroll girls, Dylainey Floyd won the 200-meter dash (26.07) and the 400-meter dash (58.92). Taylor Hansen won the 1,600-meter run (5:17.89). Adelle Schlotterback won the 300 hurdles (45.46). Alysia Davis was second (47.32) and Evie Sunderlin third (48.75).

The Chargers’ 4×100-meter relay team of Aliyah Sauder, Laila Stuckey, Bailey Sinish and Lyla Ward won their event (51.43). Sinish also took the high jump (5-7). Addison Windsor won the pole vault (10-6).

Carroll hosts a tri-meet on Wednesday, May 10 and the Charger freshman and sophomore boys will be in action on Friday, May 12 at Concordia.
