By DAVID VANTRESS - | Oct 17, 2022

The Carroll High School football team will get a well-deserved break this week as Class 5A and 6A schools receive a bye for the first round of the IHSAA sectional.

The Chargers put the finishing touches on a perfect 2022 regular season last Friday night with a 45-8 win over Wayne.

Carroll finishes 9-0 overall (9-0 SAC) and won the SAC championship outright.

The Chargers amassed 380 yards in total offense against the Generals: 165 on the ground and 215 through the air.

Sophomore quarterback Jimmy Sullivan continued to be a dual threat for the Chargers, rushing for 66 yards on five carries with a trio of TDs. Sullivan completed 19-of-30 passes for 193 yards and three TDs with two interceptions.

Nathan Starks ran for 84 yards on 15 carries with three TDs. Camden Herschberger had four catches for 44 yards to lead Carroll.

The Chargers led 17-8 at halftime and pulled away in the second half with 28 more points.

Maxton Wiard and Ashton Pesefski led the Charger defense with seven tackles each.

After this week’s bye, the Chargers travel to Penn next Friday night, Oct. 28, for a sectional semifinal showdown with the Kingsmen (7-2). The other semifinal matchup includes 7-2 Warsaw and 7-2 Elkhart.

The winners of the semifinal matchups will meet Friday, Nov. 4, for the sectional title.
