Carroll volleyball rolls into postseason with 28-2 record

FORT WAYNE — The Carroll High School volleyball team heads into the 2022 IHSAA Class 4A sectional tournament with one of the best records in the area at 28-2.

Last week, the Chargers split a pair of matches, defeating Leo, 3-1 on Monday, Oct. 3, and falling to Angola, 3-1 on Thursday.

Last Monday night against Leo, the Chargers got 12 kills and four service aces from Ellie Frey. Olivia Gisslen had 28 assists, Breanna Ginder added 14 digs.

Against Angola, Frey led the Chargers with 14 kills and 11 digs. Gisslen had 37 assists and four blocks.

The Chargers will open Snider Sectional play on Thursday night with a first-round match against 11-17 Snider at 7:30 p.m. A Charger victory would vault Carroll into a Saturday semifinal at 12:30 p.m. against 5-21 Northrop, which got a first-round bye.

Other first-round action at the Snider Sectional Thursday night will pit 2-20 North Side against 13-15 DeKalb 1t 6 p.m. The winner of that match will move into the first semifinal on Saturday at 11 a.m. against 6-21 East Noble.

The championship match is set for 6 p.m.
