NACS board finishes packed agenda

The Northwest Allen County Schools board of trustees met April 28. Among the business:

• After 30 years of service, the retirement of school bus driver Sherri Bradley was announced, effective May 26.

• Board members unanimously approved a number of professional learning and training activities, including the Building Thinking Classrooms Conference scheduled June 29-30 in Franklin.

• The board voted to accept an Education Readiness Grant of $64,000, with the hopes of using it toward an advanced cyber security class. A beginner’s cyber security class is already available.

• A construction bid of $1,477,260 was accepted from A. Hattersley & Sons for the Arcola Elementary, Carroll Middle School and Maple Creek Middle School chiller replacement projects.

• Chief Communications Officer Lizette Downey invited the community to the annual Corporate Arts Awards on Monday, May 8, prior to the 6 p.m. School Board meeting in the Perry Hill Elementary School gymnasium. The Maple Creek Middle School steel drum band will also perform at the show. This year’s show will feature NACS teachers’ artwork as well as students’.

• The board applauded the Carroll High School National Honor Society for its recent book delivery to four NACS elementary schools. Students dropped off books to be given to kindergartners at their orientation.

• Congratulated four NACS elementary schools for participating in the recent Math Bowl.
