FORT WAYNE — Volleyball success at Carroll High School is just of one of those things you come to expect.
The Chargers wrapped up the 2022 season Saturday, Oct. 22, with a loss to Hamilton Southeastern in the Class 4A Noblesville Regional semifinals.
Carroll finished 31-3 and won its 14th consecutive sectional championship.
The Chargers will say goodbye to a special, talented group of six seniors: Ella Etter, Ellie Frey, Aliyah Saylor, Lauren O’Neil, Emory Guderian and Summer Hendershot.
Four of the six Carroll seniors have committed to play college volleyball: Frey at Grand Canyon University, Hendershot at IU-East in Richmond, Saylor at the University of Northern Ohio and Guderian at Northern Kentucky. Several other seniors are still considering their options, according to Carroll coach Pandy Sinish.
Sinish said this particular senior group did a great job of providing leadership for the younger players and will be missed.
“They made everyone feel welcome and kept us together as a team,” Sinish said. “Just a great group of kids, good role models for the younger players.”
The Chargers have not won a regional championship since 2015, and this year’s Class 4A Noblesville Regional field was especially tough, Sinish said: Carroll, eventual champion Hamilton Southeastern, Homestead and McCutcheon were four of the top five teams in the state this season.
Despite losing so many seniors, Sinish said the future is bright with a JV that finished 24-2 and a good core returning from this year’s team.
That includes junior libero Brenna Ginder; junior setter Olivia Gisslen; freshman middle hitter Addi Shippy; freshman middle hitter Bailey Sinish, the coach’s daughter; junior defensive specialist/libero Maggie Deturk; sophomore outside hitter Chloe Herschberger; and sophomore setter Kate Jacquay.
“We’ve got a good mix of experience coming back and girls coming up from the JV,” Sinish said.
