Victim of gunfire near McCormick Park identified

At about 6:43 p.m. April 12, Fort Wayne Police Department Dispatch received multiple calls about shots fired and the possibility of multiple victims suffering from gunshots near McCormick Park at the intersection of McCormick and Redwood avenues.
FWPD officers arrived to the 2300 block of Redwood a short time later, observing a large group of people fleeing the area. Officers then discovered a female suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was stabilized on scene, then transported to a local hospital. Three males were transported to the hospital before police arrived. One man was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The victim was identified as Brycen Demond Cassell-Thomas, 18, male, black of Fort Wayne.
Brycen Demond Cassell-Thomas is the 10th homicide for Allen County for 2023.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Allen County Coroner.
