Well Grounded Cafe in Huntertown is hosting various troops to sell cookies from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each Saturday through mid-February.
Sherry Myers, owner of Well Grounded, was a Girl Scout herself in her youth and helped manage the local Girl Scouts in northeast Indiana as an adult.
The first Girl Scout selling this year was Tinley Witt, accompanied by her mother, Melissa Witt. Tinley is part of Troop 51235, which has 12 Daisies, Brownies and Juniors.
“Our troop decides its own goal. Each girl gets to decide her personal goal too,” said Melissa Witt.
Tinley’s troop decided to base their goal on their troop number. While 51,235 was too big, they decided on 5,123 and a half boxes.
A new cookie is available, online only. Raspberry Rally is dipped in chocolate coating. All other varieties of cookies are available for purchase in person as usual, including a gluten-free variety, the Caramel Chocolate Chip.
Tinley enjoys the Lemonades most, while Melissa says the Peanut Butter Patties are her favorite.
Each box of cookies costs $5, with gluten-free cookies costing $6.
Tinley said she enjoys selling cookies almost as much as she likes eating them. She also enjoys going on fun trips with her troop including sleepovers at Camp McMillan.
Her mother, Melissa, was a Girl Scout as well, so she enjoys doing this with her daughter. “It’s a good opportunity for her to practice her math,” she said, since Tinley is a first-grader.
This is Tinley’s second year as a Girl Scout and sales were strong Saturday, selling at least 30 boxes.
Girl Scout cookies can be ordered online again. Find online ordering instructions at girlscouts.org. Or, click on Cookies and enter a ZIP code in the “Find Cookies!” tool to see dates and locations for Girl Scout Cookie sales nearby.
