Model railroad

A model train display continues through Jan. 26 at the Monroeville Branch Library, 115 Main St., Monroeville.

Open demonstrations occur on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The model train layout is provided by Three Rivers and Indiana Northern Railroad Association, whose club members like railroads and build modules of various railroading scenes. One such scene depicts the railroad line and inter-urban line that went through Monroeville. T.R.A.I.N. is a nonprofit group aimed at promoting the model railroading hobby in the Fort Wayne area.

Feeding birds

How-To Studio will present “Winter Bird Feeding” from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Dupont Branch Library, 536 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne.

In this instructional program, adults will craft, DIY and explore craft techniques. Register at acpl.libnet.info/events.

Time for cookies

Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana’s annual cookie sales began Jan. 13, with online sales only of the new Raspberry Rally cookie.

On Jan. 20, Girl Scouts will have the rest of the cookie lineup on hand for direct sales. Those varieties include Thin Mints, Trefoils (formerly Shortbread), Caramel deLites, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich and Caramel Chocolate Chip (gluten-free). Cost of cookies in the GSNI-M council is $5 per package, $6 for gluten-free. The sale continues through March 20.

Customers can buy cookies in person at a Girl Scout Cookie booth beginning Jan. 20. Go to girlscouts.org, click on Cookies and enter a ZIP code in the “Find Cookies!” tool to see dates and locations for Girl Scout Cookie sales nearby.

Well Grounded Cafe, 14517 Lima Road, will host Girl Scout Cookie sales every Saturday through February.

Winter guard

Bishop Dwenger High School, 1300 E. Washington Center Road, Fort Wayne, will host 19 winter guard units from area schools from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for ages 5 and under, and free for infants in arms.

Local groups include: New Haven, noon; Leo, 12:21 p.m.; Bishop Dwenger, 12:28 p.m.; Homestead Cadet, 12:35 p.m.; Carroll Cadet, 12:42 p.m.; North Snide, 1:10 p.m.; Wayne, 1:31 p.m.; Homestead JV, 1:38 p.m.; Columbia City, 1:45 p.m.; Carroll JV, 1:39 p.m.; Carroll varsity, 2:23 p.m.; Homestead varsity, 2:34 p.m.

The host school’s five-member guard competes in Festival class. Danielle Burgett and Robert Cortise direct.

ACRES news

ACRES Land Trust will hold an open house for new members from 1-2:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Allen County office, 1802 Chapman Road, Huntertown. New and longtime members will learn how membership protects land. Members will hear ACRES history and get updates on new projects. Refreshments will be provided.

Respite yoga

Stillwater Hospice offers yoga for respite and restoration from 5:30-6:20 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Peggy F. Murphy Community Grief Center, 5920 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne. Their notice reads “Come as you are, no experience necessary.” Call 260-435-3261 for details on this and other programs.

Art event Feb. 11

ACRES Land Trust will sponsor an art workshop for children at 10 a.m. Feb. 11 at the Allen County office, 1802 Chapman Road, Huntertown.

At this art workshop designed for children 5 or older, participants will create a winter-inspired watercolor painting with ACRES volunteer Erin McKeever. All supplies are included.

Concordia Lutheran High School, 1601 St. Joe River Drive, Fort Wayne, offers a “last chance” open house from noon-3 p.m. Jan. 22. Visitors may tour the high school, meet the teachers, and learn about academic and extracurricular programs.
