Carroll to host band regional Saturday; Carroll, Homestead also here

The Carroll Charger Pride marching band continues its 2022 campaign Saturday, Oct. 15. The band marches in Open Class A in the Indiana State School Music Association competition.

Carroll hosts an ISSMA Open Class Regional, marking the first time Carroll has hosted an ISSMA Regional. From Fort Wayne, Open Class A bands Carroll and Homestead and Open Class C Concordia Lutheran will march at Carroll. In all, 22 bands will compete at Carroll. The first band goes on at 11 a.m. Local bands include: Norwell, 11:45 a.m.; Concordia Lutheran, 1 p.m.; Carroll, 4:30 p.m.; and Homestead, 4:45 p.m.

Open Class B bands North Side (4:45 p.m.) and Leo (5:45 p.m.) and Open Class D bands Whitko (12:15 p.m.) and Woodlan (1:30 p.m.) will compete at the Lafayette Jefferson Regional. In all, 23 bands will compete at Lafayette Jeff. The competition begins at 11 a.m.

Admission to either ISSMA event is $8 for adults and $5 for students and preschoolers.

The Regionals will narrow the field for four Class A-D Semistates in the Indianapolis area on Oct. 29. Ten bands in each class will advance to the ISSMA State Finals Nov. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Open Class bands performed and received scores from ISSMA judges Saturday at four Scholastic Class Prelims / Open Class Invitationals, including one at Homestead High School.

In Class A, both Carroll and Homestead received Gold ratings with distinction in Music, Visual and Effect.

In Class B, the North Side Marching Legends received a Gold rating with distinction in Music and Visual. Leo Roar of the Lions also received a Gold rating.

In Class C, Concordia received a Gold rating with distinctions in Music, Visual and Effect.

In Class D, Woodlan received a Gold rating and Whitko received a Gold rating with distinction in Visual.

Scholastic Class bands also competed at Homestead. Gold ratings ensured a trip to the Scholastic State Finals Oct. 22 at Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. Scholastic A bands advancing from the Fort Wayne area and their Oct. 22 performance times are: Northrop Big Orange Pride, 4:43 p.m.; Snider Mighty Panther Marching Band, 5:22 p.m.; and Wayne Marching Generals, 7:06 p.m.

Other local bands competing were: Heritage Marching Patriots, Silver; Bishop Dwenger Marching Saints, Silver; Columbia City Marching Eagles, Silver; and New Haven Mighty Marching Bulldogs, Bronze.

Three local bands also are entered in the Bands of America Super Regional, Oct. 21 and 22 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Performing in the Oct. 21 Prelims are: Snider, 9:15 a.m.; Homestead, 11:15 a.m.; and Columbia City, 10:18 p.m.

Homestead also is entered in the BOA Grand National Finals, Nov. 10-12 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
