The autopsies have been completed and notifications have been made to the next of kin for the male victims that were found within a residence in the 7000 block of Strawberry Drive on Jan. 4 at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The decedents have been positively identified as Robert Lee Whitt, 65, of Fort Wayne, and Gordon L. Douglas, 64, of Fort Wayne.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the residence and found it to be a fully involved structure fire. Subsequent search of the debris found the two residents had succumbed to the fire.

Cause of death has been determined to be smoke inhalation and thermal burns and the manner of death is accident for Whitt and Douglas.

The incident remains under investigation by the FWFD and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
