FWPD investigating shooting on Eden Street
SEPT. 15 UPDATE: The suspect in the shooting at the 2100 block of Eden Street was arrested early on Sept. 15 without incident. The suspect is Derrick D. Dennis II, 25, and he has been charged with murder (level one felony).
The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at the 2100 block of Eden Street just after 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 14. Officers were called to the 2100 block of Eden Street on reports of shots fired.
Multiple callers called police advising that numerous shots were fired in the area. Once at the scene, police observed an apartment window that had been shot out, as well as a vehicle that had damage. There was a fresh blood trail that lead away from the apartment complex. The scene was immediately secured and witnesses were identified. No shooting victim was located at the scene.
A short time after, while the scene was being processed, a gunshot victim was brought to a local hospital by private conveyance with non-life-threatening injuries. Once at the hospital, the adult male was quickly downgraded to life-threatening injuries. Witnesses are currently being interviewed and video surveillance is being reviewed.
There is a person of interest associated with this shooting based on preliminary investigation information. The crime scene is being processed thoroughly to obtain as much evidence as possible.
