The City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5300 block of Lake Avenue on Sept. 4 at approximately 4:15 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

Initial reports indicated a male had been shot. Officers arrived on the scene and located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent single gunshot wound. Paramedics transported the victims to a local hospital in fair condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, the victim was downgraded to life-threatening condition by a physician.

Preliminary information indicated this was possibly an accidental shooting that occurred inside a vehicle. Detectives are interviewing witnesses that were in and around the vehicle when the shooting occurred. They hope to obtain additional facts once those interviews are completed.

This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. There are no additional details at this time.
