Sept. 18 – Huntertown man killed in hit-and-run identified

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash.

Satwinder Singh Grewal, 40, of Huntertown died of multiple blunt force Injuries due to a pedestrian versus a motor vehicle crash, and the manner of his death is accident, according to the coroner’s office Sept. 18.

At around 6:36 a.m. Sept. 16, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Hand Road, south of Hathaway Road, regarding an unconscious person off the side of the road, according to Sgt. Adam Griffith, sheriff’s spokesman.

Upon arrival, officers and medics found an unconscious man near near the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Huntertown EMS.

A preliminary investigation indicated the victim was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. Officers located vehicle parts that they believed came from the suspect vehicle.

After piecing together a brief timeline, officers from a different call for service indicated they had a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle from the hit-skip crash. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time it was found, according to Griffith.

The incident remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the coroner’s office.

Grewal is the 32nd traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2023.
