Open Class bands earn trips to Oct. 29 Semistates

The North Side Marching Legends compete at the Carroll High School Challenge of Bands on Sept. 24. On Saturday at Lafayette Jeff High School, the Legends earned a trip to the ISSMA Class B Semistate on Oct. 29 at Pike High School in Indianapolis.

The Carroll Charger Pride marching band has advanced to ISSMA Open Class Semistate competition Oct. 29 in Indianapolis.

Also advancing from northeast Indiana are Angola, Concordia Lutheran, DeKalb, East Noble, Garrett, Homestead, Huntington North, Leo, North Side, Whitko and Woodlan. The bands earned their invitations in Indiana State School Music Association Open Class Regional competitions Saturday at Carroll and Lafayette Jefferson High Schools.

Northrop, Snider and Wayne/South Side had already earned berths in the ISSMA Scholastic Class State Finals Oct. 22 at Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis.

Carroll and Homestead both earned Gold ratings and advanced in Open Class A from the first-ever Carroll Regional. Homestead also earned Distinction in Music. Twenty Class A bands will meet in the Open A Semistate Oct. 29 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

Also at Carroll, Concordia Lutheran, Angola and Garrett earned Gold and advanced in Class C. CLHS earned Distinction in Effect, Music and Visual. Angola earned Distinction in Music and Effect. In all, 20 Class C bands will compete Oct. 29 at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis.

At Lafayette Jeff, North Side, DeKalb and Huntington North earned Gold and advanced in Class B. Leo and East Noble earned Silver and advanced to the field of 20 on Oct. 29 at Pike High School in Indianapolis.

In Class D at Lafayette, Whitko and Woodlan earned Gold and advanced to the field of 20 on Oct. 29 at Franklin Community High School.

Semistate marching schedules had not been announced as of 7 p.m. Sunday. Follow https://issma.net for updates.

Ten bands from each Open Class Semistate advance to the State Finals on Nov. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Also this weekend, Columbia City, Homestead and Snider are entered in the Bands of America Super Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium. Preliminaries begin Friday. Finals are Saturday evening. Visit https://marching.musicforall.org for schedules, results and ticket information.
