Jan. 22 – Huntertown Industrial Park rezoning to aid future trail project
A rezoning within the Lima-Plank Industrial Park in Huntertown could eventually lead to a trail project connecting the town to Kendallville to the north.
A plan to rezone a portion of agricultural land within the industrial park to match the adjacent industrial zoning will include the dedication of a portion of the former Pennsylvania Railroad corridor to be used in future trail development. That corridor is to the west of the buildings currently within the industrial park, just outside Huntertown’s corporate limits. Those plans were heard by the Allen County Plan Commission on Jan. 14 and will be up for approval by the Allen County Board of Commissioners.
The project is a joint effort between Huntertown, Fort Wayne Trails and the Allen County Highway Department. During the Jan. 14 public hearing, the highway department asked that enough land be set aside for the future trail within the industrial park’s primary development plan. The town of Huntertown also submitted a letter in support.
The project would connect Huntertown to Kendallville to the north via a pedestrian trail as part of the Fishing Line Trail, which will eventually connect Noble County to Fort Wayne and LaGrange County
