The Huntertown Redevelopment Commission is discussing streetlights for two areas of town. At a May 4 meeting, the panel also discussed buying a clock tower.

The RDC reviewed lighting options for Woods Road along the area of the Huntertown Family Park.

“We have the normal overhead (cobra head) lights on Woods Road between Lima Road and Town Square that provide some lighting. This is going to add to that, but this is more for aesthetics, rather than to light the roadway,” Beth Shellman, town manager, said.

Town Square is a housing development at Woods Road and Towne Park Run.

The busy Woods Road is being widened; that work is expected to be completed by mid-August.

According to the RDC, the Town Council is considering either 12-foot or 14-foot ornamental light poles. The council also is looking at either an acorn-type head or a globe-type head for the actual light atop the pole.

A decision on the lighting project could be announced by June, Brandon Seifert, RDC president, said.

The cost of the project has not yet been determined.

The RDC also discussed options for updated streetlights in the Lima Plank Industrial Park.

Some of the approximately 15 lights work, and some do not, Seifert said.

“Last year, a third of the lights were replaced through a loan taken out by the (Lima Plank Industrial Park) Association. There are still two-thirds of the lights to go,” Shellman said.

According to Shellman, Lima Plank Industrial Park leader Joe DePrisco came to redevelopment commissioners recently asking for assistance in buying more lights for the park. “Joe is working on that to see how much it is going to cost,” Seifert said. DePrisco is president and owner of Adaptive Technologies, located in the park.

DePrisco, who was not at the May meeting, is expected to share his findings at a future RDC meeting.

Finally, Huntertown might get a clock tower. Town leaders are looking at several clock tower styles. Similarly, no decision has been made on the best location for the clock tower.

“It is something that is missing here,” Seifert said.
