Allen County commissioners plan improvements at Rupert Road and S.R. 37

Allen County is planning improvements at the intersection of S.R. 37 and Rupert Road just northeast of Harlan and Grabill. The Allen County commissioners approved a contract June 5 with Engineering Resources Inc. for a study of the intersection in the total of $59,900.

The county highway department is seeking alternatives to remedy several safety issues identified at the intersection. Bill Hartman, Allen County Highway Department director, said poor alignment and sight distance have been cause for concern. The intersection sees a high volume of truck traffic due to several industrial operations along Rupert Road, including a sawmill and a building panel manufacturer.

“We’ve got utilities right in the radius, too, that are significantly damaged on a regular basis,” Hartman said.
