Subject injured in police-involved shooting
On Jan. 9, the subject from the police action shooting on Lemonwood Court was released from the hospital and taken into custody.
Thomas A. May, 36, was charged with four counts of pointing a loaded firearm, six counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, two counts of intimidation and one count of neglect of a dependent.
Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a house in the 800 block of Lemonwood Court on the report of a disturbance involving suicide threats on Jan. 7.
When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with an adult male subject armed with a handgun. Officer(s) fired and the subject was injured. The subject was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers or bystanders were injured.
At this time, investigators are interviewing witnesses and person involved in the incident, as well as collecting evidence at the scene.
The Indiana State Police will conduct a parallel investigation with the FWPD regarding the police action shooting.
The involved officer(s) will be placed on standard administrative leave to allow the investigation to proceed and give them time to cope with the traumatic incident.
This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD, ISP and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
