Carroll swimmers finish 11th at state

The Carroll boys swim and dive team finished 11th overall during Saturday’s state finals at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, scoring 60 team points to tie with Delta.

Senior Chandler Lipp placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.97) and 100-yard freestyle (45:82).

Sophomore Adam McCurdy placed ninth in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.10).

Sophomore Owen Dankert placed 12th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.85).

Carroll’s 200-yard medley relay team of Evan Bushong, Luke Lawson, McCurdy and Chandler Marsh placed 11th (1:35.05).

Maple Creek grapplers sweep New Haven

Maple Creek Middle School’s wrestlers defeated New Haven on Feb. 22.

The varsity team won 55-31 with wins by Taegan McKinney, Luke Gallmeier, Kael Hunter, Trevor Noble, Jack Mitchell, Kaleb Blackburn, Ricky Stroud, Will Jeffries, Lucas Noble and Alicia Dewitt.

The JV defeated the Bulldogs 21-12 with wins by Luke Gallmeier, Jack Mitchell, Charles McCreary and Jayden Barrie.

Bobcat wrestlers defeat Summit

Maple Creek Middle School’s varsity and junior varsity wrestlers both managed to escape with narrow victories Feb. 23 over Summit.

The varsity wrestlers won their match 46-43, and the JV wrestlers won 13-12. Winning for the Bobcats were varsity wrestlers Taegan McKinney, Luke Gallmeier, Kael Hunter, Eli Ward, Charles McCreary, Noah Bowser, Will Jeffries, Lucas Noble and Alicia Dewitt. For the JV team, Trevor Noble, Jaydon Barrie and Alicia Dewitt all came away victorious.

Maple Creek swim teams move to 2-1

Maple Creek Middle School’s boys and girls swim and dive teams competed against conference rival Summit on Feb. 25. The Bobcats posted some top individual performances despite coming up short in the team scores.

Competing for the girls team, Ellie Castleman finished first overall in diving with a final score of 116.55, while Avery Ziembo finished third, Kennadie Liegl finished fifth and Elyse Francher-Donald finished sixth. In swimming, Kate Fetters placed first in the 200 free and the 100 backstroke, Naomi Bowland finished first in the 100 IM, Catherine Greenlee finished first in the 50 free and the 400 free, and Olivia Harley finished first in the 100 free.

Greelee’s 4:23.19 in the 400 free is a new school record.

On the boys team, Jackson Baldwin finished fourth in diving. In swimming, Kelan Baumert finished second in the 200 free and the 100 backstroke, Will Greenlee finished second in the 100 IM, Jonah Barranda finished second in the 50 fly and the 100 free, and Hayden Hoover finished second in the 400 free.

Both Maple Creek teams are now 2-1 on the season.

On Feb 23, the Bobcat teams opened their season with victories over Indian Springs and Memorial Park at the NACS Natatorium.

The girls team defeated Indian Springs 137-100, with Memorial Park scoring 30. On the boys side, Maple Creek scored 118 points, Indian Springs scored 117 and Memorial Park scored 42.

The girls were led in diving by Ellie Castleman’s first-place finish and a second-place finish by Kaelyn Kinsey. Leading the girls team in the swimming portion was Catherine Greenlee with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 free, Olivia Harley finishing first in the 50 free, Kate Fetters finishing first in the 50 fly and Jordan Glassley placing first in the 100 backstroke.

In boys diving, Jackson Baldwin finished in first place. In swimming, Maple Creek was led by first-place finishes from Hayden Hoover in the 50 free and the 100 free.
