Police ask public to refrain from coming downtown amid turmoil
As protests and police response continued Friday evening in downtown Fort Wayne, the Police Department asked the public to refrain from adding to the traffic downtown.
A police spokeswoman promised to issue a statement as soon as the disturbance subsides. She thanked everyone for their patience.
The “I Can’t Breathe” protest began in the afternoon in front of then Allen County Courthouse, in sympathy with George Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis.
