Summit City Singers will present a free public concert this weekend.
The SATB (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) choir will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lower Level theater of the Allen County Public Library in downtown Fort Wayne.
The spring theme is “It’s Showtime!” Expect songs from “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Funny Girl,” “Carousel,” “Les Miserables” and more.
Since February, the group has been rehearsing from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays at St. John Lutheran Church.
Concerts are given in many different venues. Those include retirement communities, churches and the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
According to spokeswoman Saadia Mead, “Before COVID we had more performances but they were more spread out.”
Under the new director, Jay Heare, there are now between 40-50 singers who are part of the choir. Mead said the group is still growing. Prior to a COVID interruption, the group attracted as many as 80 singers each season.
Summit City Singers is open to anyone high school age and older who has the desire to sing, can attend rehearsals and concerts, and match pitch.
Rehearsals resume September through early November, with concerts mid-November to early December.
The group performs all types of choral music, both secular and sacred.
