Fourth annual Eco Fest to highlight sustainability
From staff reports
Eco Fest will take place Sunday, May 21, from noon-5 p.m. at Headwaters Park in Fort Wayne. This is a free, family-friendly event.
Eco Fest is inviting the Fort Wayne community to “go green” at its fourth annual event. Highlighting over 100 local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and food vendors, this event is made for everyone — not just those with a current understanding or passion for green efforts.
“Eco Fest is designed to meet every individual where they are on their ‘green journeys,’ ” said Addie Farris, president of Eco Fest Fort Wayne. “From beginners to experts, this event is here so that everyone can learn something new. We are happy to be bringing more vendors and more experiences this year, which mirrors the environmentally-friendly growth that we are proud to see in our community.”
Attendees can expect to see:
• Kid-friendly nature & education activities
• Free yoga
• Active engagement booths
• Wares including handmade soaps, candles, pottery and jewelry
• Vintage/secondhand clothing
• Eco-friendly household products
• Landscaping/gardening Information
• Local art
• Local food and beverage vendors
• And more.
In an effort to minimize the event’s environmental impact, attendees can expect to use Eco Fests innovative “waste station” at the event. All waste, including trash, recyclables and compost, will be given to volunteers and staff for sorting. Attendees should look for signage at the front and back of the event.
As a part of its dedication to local initiatives, Eco Fest has committed to donating a portion of its proceeds to Smiley’s Garden Angels to promote the good that they do for the community.
Eco Fest’s mission is to increase awareness and educate about sustainability, celebrate businesses and organizations whose mission or practices push forward sustainability, encourage community involvement, and make sustainability accessible to all.
