Embassy’s Grande Page organ to summon silent film era
From staff reports
The Embassy Theatre will celebrate the Grande Page pipe organ with five events May 20-Aug. 6. Four will include silent movies.
Tickets are free for 12 and under, 65 and over, and members of the Embassy. Other tickets are $10 (plus applicable fees) and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com. To avoid Ticketmaster fees for general tickets or to obtain free tickets, visit the STAR Bank box office at the Embassy (260-424-5665) at 125 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. The box office is open Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
The Grande Page pipe organ (4-manual, 16-rank) is maintained by a group of volunteers, and has for the past century, drawn organ fanatics — at times, party train-cars full of them — to hear this instrument played, by some of the greats — including the Embassy’s Buddy Nolan. This series will honor this history and revisit silent cinema classics and feature organists Dave Wickerham, Clark Wilson and Cletus Goens, who will lend context to the films and music at each event. Installed in 1928, the Embassy’s Grande Page organ is one of three organs of its kind.
The theater lobby will be open to patrons an hour prior to show-time. To reserve accessible seating, contact the box office. These are general admission events. Sensory kits and hearing assist devices are available at the STAR Bank box office at the Embassy Theatre.
