Surging Chargers remain undefeated in 2023

The Carroll High School baseball team continues gaining momentum, adding three wins last week to boost the Chargers’ record to 12-0 for 2023.

Carroll defeated East Noble, 7-0 on April 20. Michael Dierckman and Cameron Sanders combined on the shutout for the Chargers, allowing just two hits and striking out 10.

The Chargers got it done in this one with just four hits. Dierckman helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Daniel Kirk was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Cooper Rudolph drove in a pair of runs.

On the weekend, Carroll took a doubleheader from Northridge on Saturday, beating the Raiders 9-3 in the first game and 15-1 in the second game.

In the opener, the Chargers’ Will Worrell got the win, going six innings and surrendering just two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Jaxon Sparks finished up in the seventh, striking out a pair while giving up a run.

Carroll got nine hits in Game 1, breaking open a 2-2 game with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Dierckman was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Conner Barkel went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In Game 2, the Chargers jumped on the Raiders early, with five runs in the first, six in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth in the contest stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule. Camden Herschberger went the distance for the win, with just one run given up and five strikeouts.

Carroll collected 12 hits, with Barkel going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Grant Peters was 3-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs.

The Chargers were scheduled to host Warsaw on Tuesday, April 25, then host Norwell on Friday, April 28. Carroll travels to Snider for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 29. Games on Saturday at Snider are scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon.
