FORT WAYNE — Carroll High School’s gymnastics team took its first step toward qualifying for state, placing third on Feb. 25 at the Concordia Sectional with 105.30 points.

Homestead won the sectional championship with 110.60 points. Bishop Dwenger was second with 109.10.

The top three teams moved on to the regional meet at Huntington North at 11 a.m. March 4.

The Chargers’ Aubrey Graf had Carroll’s highest score in the vault, finishing fifth (9.05). Graf was also fifth in the all-around (35.95) and tied for sixth in the floor exercise (9.125). Natalie Smith also turned in a top 10 finish in the floor exercise (9,025).

Graf was also fourth in the balance beam (9.025) and Smith eighth (8.825). Maleah Tanner was tied for ninth (8.8).

Avery Ziembo finished ninth in the all-around (34,025).
