Northrop Classique to draw middle school and high school show choirs

Middle school and high school show choirs from northeast Indiana and beyond will compete at the Northrop Classique in Fort Wayne this weekend.

Northrop High School, 7001 Coldwater Road, will host the area’s first show choir competition of the season.

Middle school show choirs will compete from 6-10 p.m. Friday, with awards at 10:15 p.m. Admission is $5.

High school show choirs will compete in two admission segments Saturday. The women’s division will compete from 8 a.m.-noon, with awards at 12:30 p.m. Mixed choirs will compete from 1-5:30 p.m., with awards immediately after the 5:30 performance. A separate admission applies to the evening championship sing-off, from 6:30-approximately 11:15 p.m., with awards to follow. Admission to the day program or the evening program is $10. Admission to both is $15.

Food will be available at a Northrop concession stand.

The host school’s show choirs will perform in exhibition. The 60-member Allure women’s show choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. to open the evening. The 54-member Charisma mixed choir will perform at 10:50 p.m., just before awards.

Tom Maupin directs Northrop show choirs, assisted by Shelley Johnson. Chris Rasor is choreographer. Kevin Klee directs the 17-member backup band.

Friday night middle school performance times: Northwood, 6 p.m.; Shawnee, 6:25 p.m.; Carroll, 6:50 p.m.; Woodside/Summit, 7:15 p.m.; Maplecreek, 7:40 p.m.; Memorial Park, 8:05 p.m.; Churubusco, 8:30 p.m.; Perrysburg, 8:30 p.m.; Loveland, 9:20 p.m.; with Northrop Charisma in exhibition at 9:45 p.m. and awards at 10:15 p.m.

Saturday women’s groups performance times: Carroll ladies, 8 a.m.; Columbia City ladies, 8:30 a.m.; Homestead ladies, 9 a.m.; Loveland ladies, 9:30 a.m.; Southmont ladies, 10 a.m.

Saturday mixed groups performance times: Bellmont small mixed, 10:30 a.m.; Bishop Dwenger small mixed, 11 a.m.; Woodlan small mixed, 11:30 a.m.; Garrett small mixed, noon; (lunch, women’s awards in the auditorium, three unisex finalists announced); Austin small mixed, 1 p.m.; Churubusco small mixed, 1:30 p.m.; DeKalb small mixed, 2 p.m.; Columbia City small mixed, 2:30 p.m.; Lakeland small mixed, 3 p.m.; Edgewood large mixed, 3:30 p.m.; Loveland large mixed, 4 p.m.; Carroll large mixed, 4:30 p.m.; Findlay large mixed, 5 p.m.; Homestead large mixed, 5:30 p.m.; (award, solo awards, small mixed awards and five mixed finalists announced).

The evening championship sing-off begins at Allure in exhibition, three unisex finalists, five mixed finalists, Northrop Charisma in exhibition, and final awards.
