Concordia’s Black History assembly to showcase living legacies

By Staff | Jan 30, 2023

From staff reports

Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne and the Black Lutheran Alumni Scholarship Team will host the 2023 Black History Month assembly on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 9:30 am.

B.L.A.S.T. continues its tradition of introducing Concordia students to living legacies. This assembly features African American students who attended Concordia in the mid-1970s, and chose to send their children to Concordia, including members of the Ridley family, the Knox family and the Grimes family. Following their presentations, students will have an opportunity to ask questions of the families. During lunch, students will be able to meet one-on-one with the graduates during a Lunch and Learn.

B.L.A.ST. President Michael Edmonds will announce that applications for scholarships are being accepted from African American students for the 2023 graduating class. The B.L.A.S.T. Trailblazer scholarships are named after the first African American Concordia graduates, Peggy Greer Calloway (1954) and Richard Ridley Jr. (1956).
