Commissioner Nelson Peters said they had spent a good part of the last two weeks speaking to a number of individuals, “and man, what quality candidates that came forward for a job that doesn’t pay anything all in the name of providing public safety for their respective areas.”

In other business:

The commissioners entered into an agreement with SES Environmental to do a site assessment at 2911 Meyer Road, the former Navistar Truck Development and Technology Center. The land will be the location of the new jail as well as some county offices.

The project is not to exceed $70,000.

Commissioners Chief of Staff Chris Cloud said an environmental study on the property was done in 2013. As part of their due diligence they are having another study done to make sure no new issues have arisen on that property.

The agreement passed unanimously.
