Carroll sweeps DeKalb, on to Class 4A regional tournament
Some nights, you get your work done early.
That was the case Saturday night for the Carroll High School volleyball team, which breezed through the Class 4A Snider Sectional, sweeping DeKalb to move on to next Saturday’s regional tournament.
The Chargers won 25-11, 25-15, 25-7 in a match that took less than an hour to complete.
Carroll dispatched Northrop in its semifinal match, 25-6, 25-16, 25-15.
Aliyah Saylor led the Chargers with 11 kills against Northrop. Ellie Frey led Carroll with 14 kills in the championship match against DeKalb. Summer Hendershot had four service aces against the Barons. Brenna Ginder had eight digs and Olivia Gisslen led the Chargers with 30 assists.
Carroll coach Pandy Sinish said her team was able to play its game and control all its sectional matches.
Carroll senior Ellie Frey said the key to success this season has been its chemistry. “We’re like a family,” Frey said.
Sinish said the road only figures to get more difficult as the Chargers get deeper into the IHSAA tournament. “I’m interested to see what we can do,” Sinish said.
DeKalb got to the sectional finals with a 3-2 win over East Noble in their earlier semifinal match. The Barons dropped the opening two sets to the Knights before prevailing, 15-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-10.
DeKalb was led by Paige Langschwager with four kills. Brooklyn Barkhaus added three kills. Sophia Jackson had seven assists. Kayla Leins had seven digs.
The Chargers will meet 30-1 Hamilton Southeastern in a regional semifinal at Noblesville Saturday at 10 a.m.
The other Saturday regional semifinal features 30-1 McCutcheon and 26-7 Homestead at noon. The winners of the semifinal contests meet for the regional championship at 6 p.m.
