Charger soccer teams bow out at regional

The Carroll High School soccer teams’ 2022 season came to an end last week when both the Charger boys and girls lost in the IHSAA Class 3 regional semis.

The Charger boys defeated Lafayette Harrison 4-2 on Wednesday of last week before falling to Noblesville on penalty kicks on Saturday, 4-3. They finish 17-5-1.

Liam Ormiston, Derek Lanning and Brayden Macy had the Carroll goals in regulation. Luke Michaels and Macy had assists.

Against Lafayatte Harrison, Jacob Douglas, Nick Butler, Lanning and Sebastian Jacob Lopez had the Charger goals.

The Carroll girls, meanwhile, dispatched McCutcheon, 1-0 last Thursday night before losing to Noblesville, 5-0 on Saturday in the regional finals.

Leila Mojtahedi had the Carroll goal against McCutcheon.

Cross country squads advance

The 2022 Indiana prep cross country season will go on another week for both the Carroll boys and girls squads.

Carroll was in action last Saturday at the West Noble Regional. The top five teams advanced to this Saturday’s New Haven Semistate, which has been moved to Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

The Charger boys finished second at West Noble, with the Charger girls placing third.

Blake Nietert had the best individual finish for the Chargers (ninth in 16:47). Elijah Silcox was 25th (17:19; Aidan Borbiev 30th (17:29); Jacob Kieffer 37th (17:40); Jacob Blackburn 39th (17:42); Sawyer Mattucks 48th (17:50); and Charles Basham 64th (18:24).

The Charger girls were paced by Haile Schiffeneder (10th in 19:33). Megan Lanning was 11th (19:38); Hadley Snell 12th (19:45); Marybeth Hall 19th (20:13); Stella Kruse 31st (20:38); Maura Sloffer 35th (20:46); and Paige Hout 63rd (21:58).

The New Haven Semistate starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the girls race. The boys race will follow at 11:15 a.m.
