Charger soccer teams take sectional hardware
FORT WAYNE — Both Carroll soccer teams are headed to the next level of the IHSAA postseason.
The Charger boys and girls both took sectional championships last week: The girls on their own field with dominant 8-0 win over DeKalb on Saturday, and the boys at DeKalb with a 2-0 win over Snider.
The Charger girls opened sectional play with a 13-0 win over North Side. They then dispatched Snider, 5-0 Thursday night in the semifinals.
That’s 26 goals in three playoff matches.
The Charger girls improved to 14-5-1 with the sectional sweep. They host McCutcheon Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Class 3A regional semifinals.
The Charger boys, meanwhile, stormed through their sectional much the same way the Carroll girls did. They dispatched New Haven, 8-0 last Wednesday night in the sectional semis. Derek Lanning had three of the Charger goals. Liam Ormiston had two, as did Trey Theard. Nate Krueger had a single goal.
In Saturday night’s championship match against Snider, it was Lanning and Sebastian Lopez with the goals. Myles Repaal added an assist.
The Charger boys move to 11-4-1 and will host Lafayette Harrison Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in the regional semifinals. Will Stanley had the shutout in goal for the Chargers, needing to make just one save.
