Chargers bow out of tennis regional
FORT WAYNE — Carroll’s 2022 boys tennis season came to an end last Wednesday at the IHSAA team regional, as perennial rival Homestead knocked off the Chargers, 4-1.
The Chargers’ only win of the meet came at No. 2 doubles, where Andrew and William Jamison defeated the Spartans’ Matthew Otten and James Cowan, 6-4, 6-1.
The Spartans advanced to the regional finals on Tuesday with a 5-0 win over Huntington North, while Carroll dispatched Concordia Lutheran, also 5-0.
Carroll coach Kyle Stoffel said it was a great year for the Chargers, starting with 19 wins.
The Chargers will lose four key seniors from their starting lineup: Griffin Martin at No. 1 singles; Brian Mason at No. 2 singles; half of their No. 1 doubles team, Matthew Kosnik; and half of their No. 2 doubles tandem, William Jamison.
“All those guys gave us great leadership and will leave big shoes to fill,” Stoffel said. “Great group of guys, it was a lot of fun.”
