Chargers dominate in football win over Concordia

FORT WAYNE — The Carroll High School football team remained perfect at 8-0 on the 2022 season last Friday night with a commanding 51-0 win over Concordia Lutheran in a Summit Athletic Conference game.

Concordia fell to 3-5.

Carroll put its stamp on this one in the first half with 44 points by intermission. The Chargers got on the scoreboard in the first with a pair of TD passes, the first from sophomore quarterback Jimmy Sullivan to Nate Starks for 34 yards and the second from receiver Camden Herschberger to Sullivan for 10 yards.

Sullivan added four more TD passes in the second quarter and Braden Steely had a 36-yard punt return for a score.

Ethan Springer had the only Carroll points of the second half, a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.

On the night, Sullivan was 15-of-23 for 237 yards with five TDs.

Starks had 11 carries for 85 yards, adding three catches for 55 yards.

The Chargers close the 2022 regular season with a 7 p.m. Friday game at Wayne.

The Chargers, as a Class 6A school, will have a bye Week 10. The IHSAA’s sectional draw was held Sunday night, and the Chargers are in Sectional 2. They drew 6-2 Penn; Elkhart and Warsaw will meet in the other sectional semifinal contest Friday night, Oct. 21.
